Hydrogen is a clean fuel that only produces water when burned, but most current production relies on fossil fuels, emitting carbon dioxide. Researchers led by Professors Takashi Hisatomi and Kazunari Domen developed a sunlight-driven reactor that uses photocatalysts to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, creating carbon-free hydrogen.
