On March 24, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, was recognized with Growth Energy’s America’s Fuel Award for her work promoting renewable fuels to increase U.S. energy independence and lower prices at the pump.
Ernst has been a leading advocate for homegrown, Iowa biofuels, securing access to E15 for the summer driving months, while continuing the call for permanent, nationwide availability that would lower costs and increase demand for Iowa crops.

Joni Ernst, U.S. Senator, said, “I’ve spent years championing Iowa biofuels, and I’m truly honored to be recognized for that work. Homegrown energy is good for America’s economy, national security, and our rural communities. I will continue the charge to secure permanent, year-round E15 to expand choice at the pump and improve energy affordability.”
Ernst has kept up the drumbeat to secure permanent year-round E15 following President Trump’s announcement in Iowa earlier this year, and reiterated at a Senate Agriculture Committee hearing that it is well beyond time for Congress to deliver a bill to his desk.
Recently, she worked to add value to Iowa-grown crops by ensuring the final 45Z clean fuel production credit rule recognizes a wide array of on-farm practices.
Ernst helped introduce the Farmer First Fuel Incentives Act, which became law in the Republican-passed Working Families Tax Cuts to extend the 45Z Clean Fuel Production Credit to 2029, remove arbitrary environmental penalties against American farmers, and ensure domestic feedstocks are prioritized for biofuel production.
Ernst’s bipartisan Ethanol for America Act would remove regulatory roadblocks and ensure E15 can be offered to folks filling up their cars using existing infrastructure at local gas stations across our nation.
