Lapis Is Taking Ethanol CCS Off the Pipeline
Description
CCS project at an ethanol plant in Galva, Illinois that aims to permanently store more than 725,000 metric tons of CO₂ per year. The project uses verified local geology and a co-located storage model to capture and sequester biogenic CO₂ directly from ethanol production. If approved, the facility would lower the carbon intensity of ethanol and unlock premium low-carbon fuel markets supported by federal 45Q tax credits.

Renewable-Powered Technology Converts Carbon Dioxide Into Key Chemical
Researchers developed a bismuth-copper catalyst system that converts captured CO₂ into high-purity ethylene using electricity, offering a new pathway to produce key industrial chemicals without fossil fuels. The process can remove more CO₂ from the atmosphere than it emits when powered by low-carbon electricity such as wind. The resulting ethylene could serve as a feedstock for plastics and fuels, including sustainable aviation fuel precursors.

Greece's Prinos CO2 Storage Project Takes a Major Step Forward With FEED Contract
Kent secured a FEED contract from EnEarth, a subsidiary of Energean, to design the Prinos CO₂ Storage Project in Greece, the first permitted carbon storage site in the Mediterranean. The project will transport captured CO₂ to an onshore terminal before injecting it into a deep saline aquifer beneath the seabed for long-term storage. Built in two phases, the facility aims to scale up to 2.8 million tons of CO₂ storage per year as part of a broader Mediterranean CCS strategy.

Elk Hills Is Weeks Away From Making CCS History
California Resources Corporation completed construction of carbon capture equipment at the Elk Hills Cryogenic Gas Plant in Kern County, with first CO₂ injection expected in spring 2026 pending EPA approval. The Carbon TerraVault I project will initially capture about 100,000 metric tons of CO₂ per year and store it in the underground 26R reservoir with capacity for tens of millions of tons. The facility is positioned to become California’s first operational carbon storage hub and could anchor a broader regional carbon management network.
