Happy Friday! Thank you to the 17 people that signed up this week. Hit reply if you have any questions. I'm enjoying getting comments and feedback from each of you. I'm ending this week two stories from Texas and some weekend reading on natgas, carbon capture, and decarbonization plans. Enjoy!!
Heavy Duty EVs Come to Texas
This week the first electric commercial class 8 trucks arrive in Fleetmaster Express location in Fort Worth Texas. These heavy-duty electric trucks will be the first of 18 that Fleetmaster wants to deploy by the end of 2022. Volvo Truck North America is partnering with Fleetmaster and other trucking companies to transition to all electric trucking fleets.
Bitcoin Mining in Big Spring
Compute North, a cryptocurrency mining company from Minnesota, is using an old plant in Big Spring to power their mining operation.
“Texas is kind of the center of the universe,” says Dave Perrill, the CEO of Compute North. “The regulatory climate, the business-friendly approach and business philosophy, and obviously the energy markets all combined to just be fantastic for us.”
The abundance of cheap energy and business regulations are bringing more miners to Texas. "Digital offtake" of flared gas or associated gas in the Permian is enabling oil and gas operators to reduce emissions and power crypto mining near the wellsite. For miners, the ability to create a private energy grid using solar or wind power to ebate concerns about energy consumption.
