Decarbon Daily - Energy Q3 Earnings Season in Full Swing

This week kicks-off Q3 Energy earnings season with Tesla, Halliburton, and others. The S&P 500 Energy ($SREN) is +95% from one year ago and is set to increase due to global gas supply concerns, rising commodity prices, and a cold winter season.

Solar

  • First Solar (Oct 26th) - FSLR is a solar stock to watch due to the ongoing energy crisis. The stock is up 25% in the last 6 months.

  • Enphase Energy (Oct 25th) - ENPH recently launched battery storage systems in Belgium and is included in many of the green ETFs that are performing well this year. The stock is up 55% in the last 12 months.

EVs

  • GM (Oct) - GM continues to invest in EVs as the company expects to launch 30 EVs by 2025. Key partnerships with charging infrastructure are critical to their EV launch. GM stock increased 61% in the last year.

  • Ford (Oct 27th) - F is spending $315 million to convert a UK factory into an electrical vehicle plant and is expected to start competing with Tesla with the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

O&G Producers

  • ExxonMobil (Oct 28th) - XOM stock has gained 99% in the last year and as commodity prices creep higher, expect XOM to remain disciplined and produce shareholder returns.

  • Chevron (Oct 28th) CVX set a corporate net-zero goal that included end-user emissions. There is a bullish sentiment with the CVX stock up 61% in the last 12 months.

  • EQT (Oct 27th) - EQT is one of the US's largest natural gas producers. The company has aggressive sustainability goals to reach net-zero by 2025 and lead the industry in responsibly sourced gas (RSG). The EQT stock is up 33% in the last 12 months.

Equipment

  • Caterpillar (Oct 28th) - CAT has announced numerous decarbonization partnerships in 2021. Analysts for Cowen and Evercore ISS project the "first megacycle" for the company and estimate 24% upside.

  • NOV (Oct 26th) - NOV hedgefund activity increased by 106 million shares last quarter. The stock is up 63% in the last 12 months.

  • GE (Oct 26th) - With the GE Power and GE Renewable Energy business units, the company is seeing increased costs due to the materials supply chain. The stock is up 78% in the last 12 months.

Energy Services

  • Liberty Oilfield Services (Oct 26th) - LBRT selected Rolls-Royce's generator sets that use natural gas to power the digiFrac electric frac pump. LBRT stock is up 95% in the last 12 months.

  • Patterson-UTI (Oct 27th) - PTEN stock is up 255% in the last 12 months as drilling and completion activity has rebounded in the oilfield in 2021.

  • Nabors (Oct 26th) - NBR announced the new drilling rig PACE-R801 that has an unmanned rig floor for autonomous drilling. A partnership with ExxonMobil was also revealed to bring the technology to the Permian. The stock is up 355% in the last 12 months.
