Union Pacific Delivers Record Results

Lance Fritz, CEO of Union Pacific stated:

The result was the team delivered all-time record financial results

In Q2'21, Union Pacific delivered all-time record results as the market recovers from the pandemic. Union Pacific was founded in 1862 when President Abraham Lincoln signed the Pacific Railway Act of 1862. The company has been through world wars, depressions, and numerous economic events. As the country continues to deal with impacts from Covid-19, Union Pacific delivers the material for carbon capture, wind farms, and many other projects.

Fritz also addressed emissions:

The second quarter also marked an important milestone in our quest to reduce our carbon footprint, as we achieved a second quarter best fuel consumption rate. Locomotive fuel efficiency is the critical element to achieving our goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. And we're helping our customers achieve their ESG goals too, as they eliminated 5.7 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions in the quarter, by using rail versus truck.

Union Pacific partnered with Progress Rail partner to reduce emissions and will use increased amounts of biodiesel. Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company, approved the use of up to 20% biodiesel blend in specific EMD locomotive series operated by the railroad. Previously, the locomotives were approved to operate at 5%.
