Geothermal holds promise in certain geographies across the world but as of 2019 accounts for only 3% of electricity production, based on IEA data.
In IEA's sustainable development scenario, the growth of geothermal power is forecasted to increase by 76% in 2025 to 162 TWh from 92 TWh in 2019.
More investment is required to make this happen. Several Energy companies are beginning to put money to work and GM has recently announced a geothermal related project.
