Natural Gas Prices Reach Highest Levels Since 2008

US natural gas prices have nearly doubled this year reaching $7.82, the highest since 2008. The demand surge along with market volatility and gas inventory below normal levels points towards higher prices this year.
From January through November 2021, the United States shipped 49% of its LNG to countries in Asia, 27% to European Union (EU) countries and the United Kingdom, and 24% to other countries. However, from December 2021 through February 2022, 57% of U.S. LNG exports went to EU countries and the United Kingdom, averaging 5.6 Bcf/d in December, 7.0 Bcf/d in January, and 6.6 Bcf/d in February.
