Clean Hydrogen Partnership vital to EU climate goals
Description
The EU’s new Clean Hydrogen Partnership will be vital to reach a targeted hydrogen production cost of €1.8/kg ($2/kg), according to the body’s chair. That goal was set by the EU last year as part of its hydrogen strategy, which also aims to install 6GW of electrolyser capacity by 2024 and 40GW by 2030, as well as to produce 10mn t of green hydrogen by the latter date.

Clean Tech Startup Mote Unveils Plans for $100M Carbon Capture Plant
There’s a new local entrant in the global decarbonization race: Culver City-based cleantech startup Mote Inc. On Dec. 15, Mote unveiled plans for a $100 million gasification plant on 5 acres of land in unincorporated Kern County to extract carbon dioxide from wood waste.
To build the plant, Mote intends to team up with Irving, Texas-based engineering and construction firm Fluor Corp. and SunGas Renewables, a subsidiary of Des Plaines, Ill.-based GTI International Inc. that makes gasification systems.

Bill Gates-founded Clean-tech Initiative Funds Rocket Startup
Bill Gates’ Breakthrough Energy Ventures has backed Stoke Space’s goal of creating a fully-reusable rocket.
Breakthrough Energy Ventures is part of a network of organizations called Breakthrough Energy, which was founded by Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, and funds a number of clean tech initiatives. The organization led a Series A funding round that brought some $65 million to the Seattle-based rocket startup.

US-based Cummins to build 1GW hydrogen electrolyser factory in China with state-owned oil giant Sinopec
US-based electrolyser maker Cummins has formed a joint venture with Chinese state-owned oil giant Sinopec — to be known as Cummins Enze — which will build a 1GW PEM electrolyser factory in southern China. The $47m plant in Foshan, Guangdong province, will initially have an annual production capacity of 500MW upon completion in 2023, which will be gradually increased to reach 1GW by 2028.

Tesla announced that it installed a new Supercharger station in Hawaii, which means that the Supercharger network is now “officially” in all 50 states. I say “officially” in quotes because technically, there was already a station in Hawaii, but there was a big caveat.
