Press Release

Baton Rouge Expected To Add 21,600 Jobs By 2027. Here’s What’s Driving The Growth

Published by Todd Bush on October 3, 2025

The RiverPlex MegaPark development will be anchored by the $5.8 billion Hyundai steel mill project, for which Gov. Jeff Landry and Ascension Parish officials committed $600 million to upgrade the MegaPark land with a wastewater treatment plant, road and rail updates and land purchases. The project will create 1,300 direct jobs.

Other projects at the MegaPark include CF Industries’ $4 million blue ammonia plant and Linde’s $400 million air separation unit. Entergy is spending nearly half a billion dollars on its Commodore substation in Iberville Parish, which will connect two voltage systems to help power the MegaPark projects.

Ascension Parish will also be home to Air Products’ blue hydrogen manufacturing complex near Burnside, set to create 170 jobs and support 2,000 construction jobs. The project won’t begin production until at least 2028 or 2029; Air Products is trying to find a buyer for the carbon capture and ammonia operations at the plant.

Scott advises to keep an eye on the Port of Baton Rouge in the next two years for projects, including the $20 million expansion of the Northern Liquid Bulk Terminal and AtmosClear BR’s $800 million clean energy and carbon capture facility, which has not issued a final investment decision.

Baton Rouge’s gaming market and its employment will get a boost after the Belle of Baton Rouge casino, which plans to rebrand Bally’s, moves onto land in December.
