The fight against climate change demands innovative solutions, and the growing focus on sustainable energy sources is a crucial step in the right direction. In a promising development, NTE Discovery Park Ltd. (NTE) and Quantum Technology Corp (Quantum) have joined forces to develop a green hydrogen production plant in Campbell River, Canada. This project prioritizes both environmental responsibility and community engagement, making it a beacon of collaboration for a cleaner future.

The partnership, solidified by a Memorandum of Understanding signed on June 3rd, 2024, marks a significant step towards a greener tomorrow. The initial phase of the project aims to produce 15 metric tons of green hydrogen daily. This clean fuel will be used to power various modes of transportation in Campbell River, Vancouver Island, and the Lower Mainland.
"Green hydrogen allows ferries, buses, trucks, trains and cars to operate with zero CO2 emissions," explains Dr. Calvin Winter, president of Quantum Technology Corp. This not only reduces emissions but also contributes to mitigating the devastating effects of climate change. Hydrogen can even be blended with natural gas for further emission reduction, as highlighted by John Tang, CEO of New Times Energy Corp Ltd.
The expertise of both NTE and Quantum is vital to the project's success. NTE, owning the Discovery Park industrial site in Campbell River, plays a key role in facilitating the project's location and development. Their commitment extends beyond just the physical site, as they actively support the growth of the local economy through various initiatives.
Quantum Technology Corp, on the other hand, brings unparalleled expertise in hydrogen technology. As a leader in hydrogen liquefaction and purification, Quantum will contribute their cutting-edge technology and innovations to the project.

Building a sustainable future requires going beyond just technological advancements. NTE and Quantum understand the importance of community and stakeholder collaboration. They are actively engaging with First Nations communities, whose traditional territories encompass the project area. This collaborative approach ensures respectful and effective cooperation, integrating cultural and traditional considerations throughout the planning and execution phases.
Furthermore, NTE and Quantum recognize the importance of involving local and regional stakeholders. This includes government bodies, local organizations, and industry partners. By fostering community integration efforts, the project aims to create economic opportunities and promote environmental stewardship within the broader Campbell River community.
Looking ahead, the vision for this project extends beyond the initial phase. The potential second phase holds exciting possibilities for expansion. The goal is to scale up production to deliver green liquid hydrogen to the entire Pacific Northwest region, specifically targeting heavy transportation. This expansion of hydrogen infrastructure has the potential to significantly reduce carbon emissions in the region.
"This project is not just about producing clean fuel," emphasizes a spokesperson for NTE. "It's about pioneering a sustainable future and taking a leadership role in the clean energy sector." The innovative aspects of the project, coupled with the long-term environmental benefits, solidify NTE and Quantum's role as frontrunners in the clean energy revolution.
