E1 to Invest $75 MN in Canadian Blue Ammonia Project

Published by Todd Bush on July 14, 2025

S.Korean energy firm plans to import 1 mn tons of clean ammonia annually from 2028

South Korea’s major liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) distributor E1 Corp. said on Tuesday its plans of investing 10 million Canadian dollars (US $75 million) in a Canadian blue ammonia production project.

The project, which is being developed by Hydrogen Canada, will produce clean ammonia from natural gas in Alberta, Canada after carbon dioxide is captured and stored underground (CCS). E1 will secure 1 million tons of blue ammonia annually through this investment and target domestic introduction in 2028.

Clean ammonia is a clean and sustainable fuel that minimizes carbon emissions and can be used directly and is also attracting attention as a carrier that can store and transport hydrogen. The clean ammonia and hydrogen introduced into Korea are expected to play an important role in the activation of domestic carbon neutrality and hydrogen economy by being used in coal-fired power generation, LNG power generation, transportation, and industrial fields.

The investment by E1 is a sign of the growing interest in clean ammonia as a potential solution for decarbonizing the energy sector. Canada is well-positioned to be a major producer of clean ammonia, given its abundant natural gas resources and well-developed CCS infrastructure.
