New Partnership with Leading Agricultural Cooperative Growmark to Unlock National Scale for Enhanced Rock Weathering
OAKLAND, Calif. – Eion, a company turning the proven science of enhanced rock weathering (ERW) into a scalable climate solution, today announced a $33 million carbon removal purchase by Frontier buyers. Through this offtake deal, its largest to date, Eion will remove 78,707 tons of CO₂ between 2027 and 2030 by applying olivine—a mineral it has optimized to weather quickly—on farmland across the Midwest and South.

To support deployment at scale, Eion has partnered with Growmark, one of North America’s largest agricultural cooperatives. Growmark’s extensive farmer network, which reaches nearly 400,000 customers, provides a pathway for Eion to expand into new geographies and further accelerate the adoption of ERW.
Accelerating the Earth’s process of naturally mineralizing rocks to balance atmospheric carbon levels, Eion compresses what would otherwise take thousands of years into a timeline of several years. Olivine—approved for agricultural use for decades—is ideal for ERW because it absorbs a high rate of carbon, and its composition includes various trace elements that enable Eion to accurately measure CO₂ removal. Farmers benefit from a lower cost substitute to agricultural lime that can be spread more efficiently using existing practices.
Anastasia Pavlovic, CEO of Eion, said: “Frontier’s offtake provides an opportunity to meaningfully scale enhanced rock weathering in the US. Via our partnership with Growmark, we’re excited to deliver tangible value to the farmers who are critical to achieving significant carbon removal while maintaining operational excellence on the farm. This work will provide impact through economic stimulus and soil health benefits to rural communities, which is core to Eion’s mission.”
Owned by the farmers and agribusinesses it serves, Growmark has been a trusted partner to agricultural communities for decades. Eion’s partnership unlocks new acreage that is well suited to the use of olivine, providing tangible benefits to farmers while expanding the agricultural scale opportunity for enhanced weathering.
Brad Drake, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, said: “Growmark believes it is important to invest in innovative products like this that help make agriculture more sustainable while also connecting farmers with carbon buyers.”
Eion's direct measurement process uses real-world data to account for how ERW works in the field. Using existing soil sampling practices and standard lab equipment and methods, Eion can uphold scientific rigor while continuously monitoring health and safety. Every soil sample taken by Eion is analyzed for the presence of trace elements, including nickel and chromium which are naturally present in agricultural soils, and benchmarked against the company’s safety guardrails. Informed by verified data and risk exposure models from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), these guardrails enable Eion to be a responsible land steward and trusted partner to farmers and rural communities.
Frontier has facilitated purchases on behalf of Frontier founding members Stripe, Google, Shopify, and McKinsey Sustainability as well as Autodesk, H&M Group, Workday, and Salesforce. Also, Aledade, Canva, Match Group, Samsara, SKIMS, Skyscanner, Wise, and Zendesk have purchased via Watershed's partnership with Frontier.
Eion is a carbon removal company scaling enhanced rock weathering (ERW) on agricultural land. Holding an industry-first patent for measuring carbon removal in soils, Eion combines scientific rigor with farming expertise to integrate seamlessly into routine agriculture. Using olivine to absorb CO₂ while improving soil health, Eion ensures verifiable, permanent carbon removal. Backed by AgFunder, Growmark, and Ridgeline, and scientifically vetted by Stripe Climate, Eion aims to remove 10 million tons of CO₂ annually by 2030.
