MAX Power Mining Corp., a company recognized for its innovative approach to mineral exploration, is making significant strides in the burgeoning natural hydrogen sector. With its announcement of the exploration phase at the Rider Natural Hydrogen Project in Saskatchewan, MAX Power is positioning itself as a first-mover in Canada’s largest natural hydrogen land package. This exploration initiative underscores MAX Power’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions, further cementing its role in North America’s energy transition.

Partnering with Petro-Find Geochem Ltd., a leader in soil gas sampling in Western Canada, MAX Power aims to bring the natural hydrogen potential of Saskatchewan to the forefront of the global energy conversation. Petro-Find has developed a proprietary system that uses specialized gas probes driven into soils, enabling highly accurate readings for hydrogen. This proprietary sampling method allows real-time data collection, offering crews on the ground maximum flexibility to adapt and optimize sampling across large areas.
The first phase of the exploration program will begin after the harvesting of crops in southeastern Saskatchewan. Petro-Find’s samples will be processed at their lab in Saskatoon, and the company expects a rapid analysis. This efficient process will allow MAX Power to quickly identify key areas of interest for future development. As Denis Brière, MAX Power’s special advisor, explained, “The Rider Project is in the top category of Natural Hydrogen projects in the world in my view.”
Natural hydrogen, also known as white hydrogen, occurs naturally in subsurface environments and can be extracted with minimal environmental impact. As the world continues its shift toward low-carbon energy sources, natural hydrogen has emerged as a promising alternative to traditional fossil fuels. Unlike green hydrogen, which requires significant energy input for its production, natural hydrogen exists in nature and can be harvested at a lower cost and with fewer emissions. This makes it a key player in the future of clean energy.
The Rider Project in Saskatchewan is particularly significant because of its location. Saskatchewan is home to dozens of historical hydrogen showings from old wells, making it a rich target for exploration. MAX Power’s exploration phase will involve extensive soil gas sampling across key initial targets, with samples spaced approximately 400 meters apart. Once results are received, anomalies will be mapped out, and areas of interest will undergo further infill sampling. This methodical approach ensures that MAX Power can identify the most promising hydrogen reserves in the region.
Neil McMillan, senior strategic advisor to MAX Power and former chairman of Cameco, added, “Saskatchewan is famous for its rich resources including oil and gas, uranium, and potash. We are in an enviable position with first-mover MAX Power to do something very big with respect to Natural Hydrogen that could resonate around the world.”

Petro-Find’s role in this exploration phase cannot be overstated. The Saskatoon-based company has a track record of success in soil gas sampling and has developed a proprietary system to measure hydrogen concentrations accurately. This system provides real-time data, allowing for greater flexibility and efficiency during the sampling process. Petro-Find’s expertise will be critical in mapping out potential hydrogen reserves and helping MAX Power identify the most promising areas for further exploration.
In addition to Petro-Find, MAX Power has engaged Enki GeoSolutions, a Montreal-based consulting firm specializing in natural hydrogen. Enki GeoSolutions will provide consulting services throughout the project, further bolstering MAX Power’s ability to successfully navigate this exciting new energy frontier.
Stephan Séjourné, CEO of Enki GeoSolutions, has a long track record of coordinating multi-client industrial projects in various geological environments. His expertise will be invaluable as MAX Power continues its exploration efforts. The involvement of both Petro-Find and Enki GeoSolutions highlights the collaborative nature of the Rider Project and the importance of leveraging specialized knowledge to achieve success.
The Rider Project is just one piece of MAX Power’s larger vision for sustainable energy development. The company is also exploring opportunities in the lithium sector, with a diamond drilling discovery at the Willcox Playa Lithium Project in Arizona. This diversified approach ensures that MAX Power is at the forefront of multiple critical mineral sectors, all of which are vital for North America’s decarbonization efforts. By focusing on both natural hydrogen and lithium, MAX Power is positioning itself as a leader in the transition to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
As Denis Brière mentioned, “With a policy framework in place for Natural Hydrogen exploration and development at Rider, MAX Power has a unique opportunity to make Western Canada the launch pad for an important new low-cost, low-emissions energy source in North America.” This forward-thinking approach aligns with global trends toward reducing carbon emissions and finding new, innovative energy sources.
Natural hydrogen is still a relatively new concept in the energy sector, but its potential is enormous. If successfully harnessed, natural hydrogen could provide a low-cost, low-emission alternative to traditional fossil fuels. MAX Power’s exploration efforts in Saskatchewan represent a significant step toward realizing this potential. By engaging with industry leaders like Petro-Find and Enki GeoSolutions, MAX Power is setting the stage for future growth and development in the natural hydrogen sector.
As MAX Power moves forward with its exploration program, the company remains focused on its long-term goals of decarbonization and sustainable energy development. The Rider Project is just the beginning of what could be a transformative period for natural hydrogen exploration in North America.
In the coming years, as more data is gathered and analyzed, MAX Power will be in a strong position to capitalize on its first-mover advantage in the natural hydrogen sector. The company’s strategic partnerships and methodical approach to exploration will ensure that it remains at the forefront of this exciting new energy frontier.
“We are on track to create thousands of good jobs and generate billions of dollars in new investment across Saskatchewan by delivering a clean energy solution the world urgently needs,” said Neil McMillan.
