Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia is laying the groundwork for a zero-emission future by launching a plan to develop a 194-kilometer Green Hydrogen Corridor to support the country's transition toward a low-carbon economy.
The plan, announced at the 2026 Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit (GHES) here on Wednesday, outlines a strategic infrastructure network linking Jakarta, Karawang and Patimban to connect clean energy production with major industrial hubs, key ports and economic growth centers.

Head of the Human Resources Development Agency at the Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ministry Prahoro Nurtjahyo emphasized that the initiative goes beyond meeting hydrogen production targets.
"The Green Hydrogen Corridor is not the final destination. It is the foundation for establishing a national hydrogen corridor network," he said.
He added that the project will establish an integrated supply chain connecting Green Hydrogen Plants, Hydrogen Refueling Stations (HRS), industrial areas, logistics networks, ports and end users within a single low-carbon economic corridor.
The 194-kilometer corridor was designed based on spatial, technical, economic and logistical analyses to maximize operational efficiency.
Officials have identified 12 potential locations across the supply chain, which will be developed in phases.
The initial phase will focus on deploying on-site hydrogen refueling stations equipped with Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzers capable of producing 100 kilograms of green hydrogen per day.
To support the project, state-owned electricity company PT PLN has developed a Green Hydrogen Plant and a refueling station in Muara Karang, alongside additional refueling stations in Senayan and Duren Tiga to service the Jakarta metro area.
Meanwhile, PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) is constructing a hydrogen refueling station in Karawang to support demonstrations of hydrogen-powered vehicles.
Additionally, Patimban Greenport and Toyota Tsusho are collaborating under the "Eastern GX Corridor" framework to integrate sustainable port logistics into the national grid.
The launch of the green corridor coincided with the debut of a Hydrogen Diesel Dual Fuel (H2 DDF) pilot bus project.
Both initiatives support the government's energy self-sufficiency agenda under President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita vision.
ESDM Minister Bahlil Lahadalia underscored the strategic urgency of shifting toward clean, domestically produced hydrogen amid volatile international markets.
"Hydrogen is a crucial alternative energy source, especially given current global geopolitical uncertainties, such as ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, that threaten traditional energy supplies," Bahlil said.
He added that developing a domestic hydrogen framework is central to Indonesia's broader goals of energy self-sufficiency, industrial downstreaming and long-term decarbonization.
