~Towards the Implementation of Europe's First Power Generation Demonstration Project~
Kawasaki Heavy Industries, in collaboration with RWE Generation SE (hereinafter referred to as RWE), a major German power company, has completed the installation of a power generation facility using its 30MW-class hydrogen-fired gas turbine "L30A" at the hydrogen park within the Emsland power plant (Lingen, Lower Saxony, Germany) operated by RWE. The facility consists of a gas turbine manufactured at Kawasaki's Akashi Plant, which was then assembled into a power generation system by its group company, Kawasaki Gas Turbine Europe GmbH (KGE), and installed by the company.
Going forward, after trial runs of the gas turbine and power generation equipment, we plan to launch a demonstration project for power generation using 100% hydrogen fuel (hereinafter referred to as "this project"). This will be the first demonstration of hydrogen-fired power generation using a 30MW class gas turbine in Europe.

In this project, in addition to operating a hydrogen-fired power plant using CO2-free hydrogen produced by the electrolysis of water using green electricity supplied from RWE's wind power generation facilities, the project will also implement flexible power generation by mixing natural gas as a secondary fuel to match hydrogen supply and market needs, and arbitrarily changing the hydrogen co-firing ratio (0% to 100%).
This project has been selected for the "International Demonstration Project for Japanese Technologies Contributing to Decarbonization and Energy Transition" promoted by NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization). Through this project, our company aims to realize large-scale utilization of hydrogen energy and contribute to the realization of decarbonization and stable energy supply in Europe and around the world.
