TORONTO, ON — April 16, 2026 — Mangrove Systems (Mangrove) has acquired select operating assets from Grain Ecosystem (Grain), a digital biochar project development platform focused on the North American biochar sector. The transaction brings Grain’s customer base of biochar operators onto Mangrove’s compliance and monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) platform.
The acquisition reflects Mangrove’s continued investment in the biochar and carbon dioxide removal (CDR) sector. With a portfolio of operators, Grain played a foundational role in building the North American market for biochar. That work makes the transaction a strong strategic fit for Mangrove, deepening its commitment to the biochar sector and strengthening its position as the compliance platform of choice for carbon removal operators at scale.

Grain operator accounts will join Mangrove’s existing biochar customer base and gain access to the full breadth of Mangrove’s platform capabilities — including automated data ingestion, AI-assisted carbon accounting, end-to-end audit-ready reporting, and expert certification support across leading compliance and voluntary programs. The combined customer base represents a significant share of the operational global biochar market today.
“Ryan J. Letourneau, Co-Founder & CEO of Grain Ecosystem,” said Ryan J. Letourneau, Co-Founder & CEO of Grain Ecosystem. “Grain has built a strong platform and market presence in the biochar sector, and we believe Mangrove is well positioned to carry that work forward. This transaction provides continuity for customers and reflects a strong fit between what Grain built and Mangrove’s long-term platform.”
“Annie Nichols, General Manager of Biochar at Mangrove Systems,” said Annie Nichols, General Manager of Biochar at Mangrove Systems. “Biochar is one of the most promising and fastest-growing segments of the carbon removal market, and this acquisition deepens our commitment to it. We’re proud to welcome Grain’s operators onto our platform and to support them with the MRV infrastructure they need to scale their revenue and impact.”
Grain Ecosystem is a technology platform built to accelerate climate progress through waste-to-value infrastructure. Grain provides software and workflows for project development, carbon compliance, and operations, helping operators and developers move projects from evaluation through execution. Grain Ecosystem was founded in 2022 with early investment from SE Ventures, the venture fund backed by Schneider Electric.
