Puro.earth has published its CCS+ methodology documents, with direct air capture and geological storage (DACCS) as the first activity type implemented under its CCS+ Program.
Puro.earth’s multi-program approach enables carbon removal projects to certify under different recognised programs within the same trusted infrastructure. Alongside the Puro Program and CRCF Program, the CCS+ Program brings the CCS+ Initiative’s carbon removal methodologies into Puro.earth’s certification procedures. The newly published CCS+ Program documents, now available in the Document Library, put the CCS+ Initiative’s DACCS protocols into effect within this framework.

The CCS+ Initiative developed the methodology suite through a global, multi-stakeholder alliance comprising technology and solution providers, CO₂ emitters, CO₂ transport and storage providers, academia and civil society.
Puro.earth has integrated the suite into the Puro.earth Certification Framework, which allows multiple programs to operate on shared infrastructure. Carbon removal credits certified under the CCS+ Program will be issued as CCS+ CRC credits in the Puro Registry.

The published CCS+ Program documents are:
These operate on top of the Puro.earth Certification Procedures and the Puro.earth Common Criteria.
The CCS+ Program Annex sets out the program-specific requirements that apply alongside the Puro.earth Certification Procedures and the CCS+ Initiative’s methodology documents. It also introduces a dedicated permanence framework supported by the Puro.earth CCS+ Buffer Pool.
DACCS Operators can now certify their activities against the CCS+ methodology suite through Puro.earth, covering capture, transport and storage, and receive CCS+ CRC credits for verified DACCS performance.
Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs) can also be trained to validate and verify CCS+ Program activities. VVB requirements and procedures are set out in the Puro.earth Certification Procedures, with CCS+ Program specific requirements set out in the CCS+ Program Annex.
The CCS+ Program is now open to applications from DACCS suppliers. You can find the program documents in our Document Library and apply through Puro.earth’s existing certification process.
If you are already certified under the Puro Standard or preparing for the CRCF Program, you can add CCS+ certification through the same platform.
