São Paulo, June 23, 2026 — re.green, a Brazilian large-scale ecological restoration company, and winner of the Earthshot Prize 2025, has entered into an agreement with the global healthcare company Novo Nordisk to develop a forest restoration project in the Amazon. The initiative aims to restore approximately 500 hectares of degraded land in the municipality of Paragominas, in the state of Pará, and is expected to generate 87,000 carbon removal credits over the 20-year contract period. Carbon removal credits are generated by projects that remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store it over the long term in natural ecosystems, such as restored forests.
The project will be implemented through long-term partnerships with rural landowners, who commit to maintaining restored areas beyond the financing period through legally binding land-use agreements, ensuring the permanence of carbon removals. Restoration activities will use native Amazon tree species, combining natural regeneration with active planting, including sustainable management of native timber across up to 30% of the area.

The initiative will restore the ecological functionality of the landscape, support the return of native biodiversity, and contribute to the recovery of water resources. The area’s progress will be monitored through a continuous environmental monitoring process, combining field data and remote sensing technologies to track forest development and its climate and ecological impacts.
The credits of the project will be certified under global, science-based methodologies and guidelines developed by the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM). The first issuance of credits is expected in November 2031, with periodic verifications every three years through 2045.
In addition to carbon capture, the restoration will help improve water availability, strengthen supply chains for native seeds and seedlings, and create economic opportunities for surrounding communities.
re.green was founded in 2021 to address one of the greatest challenges of our time: restoring tropical forests at scale, combining positive impacts for climate, biodiversity, and local development with attractive and consistent financial returns. The company brings together science, technology, and capital to transform degraded areas into functional ecosystems in the Amazon and Atlantic Forest biomes.
It has already attracted leading investors, clients, and partners such as BNDES, Microsoft, Nestlé, and Vivo. Its projects generate high-integrity carbon credits, restore biodiversity, and create economic opportunities in strategic regions. The company currently operates across tens of thousands of hectares in different Brazilian states.
In 2025, re.green became the first Brazilian company to win The Earthshot Prize. Founded by HRH Prince William, The Earthshot Prize is the world’s most prestigious and impactful award designed to identify, back and celebrate groundbreaking leadership in environmental action. Winner of the Protect and Restore Nature Earthshot, re.green was recognised for its unique restoration approach making the protection of the Amazon and Atlantic Forest financially viable.
