Residual Launches Buyer Portal to Speed Up Carbon Removal Due Diligence

Published by Todd Bush on October 6, 2026

Residual, the New York-based carbon project developer, has launched its Buyer Portal, a platform that puts project details, commercial terms and risk evaluations on a single page. Announced on October 6, 2026, it's built to cut the weeks buyers often spend digging through data rooms.

The portal is live now, and access is approved case by case. Corporate buyers, financial institutions and brokers can apply. Once approved, users get every project, every section and the data room behind it.

Tackling the Diligence Bottleneck

Carbon diligence usually starts the same way. A data room lands in a buyer's inbox, and finding what matters takes weeks. Too often, the project turns out not to be a fit at all.

We built the Buyer Portal to do that work before you get there, said Dr. Laura Fritsch, Co-Founder of Residual.

Every Residual project is published in one shape. There's a snapshot at the top and eleven standardized sections underneath, always in the same order. Additionality sits near the front, since that's where most reviewers begin.

Risks and Pricing Up Front

Each risk is listed with its mitigation and the document behind it. That includes issues that are still unresolved, so buyers can spot them early instead of weeks into a review.

Pricing is on the page too. Available volume is charted by vintage and split into delivered, allocated and projected tonnes. The modelled price moves with order size, and contract options include forwards, multi-year offtakes, prepayment and spot from 2029.

Portfolio Modeling and an AI Assistant

Portfolio View lets buyers spread volume across projects and vintages. Weighted average price, total cost and the split by project type, registry and permanence all update as they build. Buyers can then test a purchase against their internal cost of carbon and delivery window.

Clara, the portal's AI document assistant, answers questions using both project pages and data rooms. Every answer names the section it came from, so users can check it themselves.

A Growing Market Needs Faster Deals

The launch arrives as demand keeps climbing. CDR.fyi reported 2.3 million tonnes of durable carbon removal contracted in Q1 2026, the largest opening quarter on record.

Beyond Microsoft's 1 million tonnes, more than 113 other purchasers contracted 1.3 million tonnes during the quarter.

Residual says project pages will go up as each project clears feasibility and design. A financier-facing view of the same material is also in development.

About Residual

Residual is an industrial-scale carbon project developer that partners with industrials to design investment-grade carbon projects. It works across biochar, BECCS, afforestation, reforestation and revegetation, and superpollutants.

The company was co-founded by Ted Christie-Miller, former Director of Carbon Removal at BeZero Carbon, and Dr. Laura Fritsch, a co-founder of carbon insurer Oka and a Lecturer and Research Fellow at the University of Oxford. Residual aims to deliver 5 million tonnes of investment-grade carbon credits per year by 2030.
