Skyrenu Technologies has delivered its first batch of carbon dioxide captured directly from ambient air to Secant Fuel, demonstrating a potential connection between direct air capture (DAC) and carbon utilization for low-carbon fuels and chemicals. Skyrenu announced the milestone on September 15, 2026.
The delivery was completed through a technology showcase involving the two Sherbrooke, Quebec companies, whose technologies have roots in research at the Université de Sherbrooke. The project combines Skyrenu's modular technology for capturing low-concentration CO2 with Secant Fuel's carbon conversion platform. The showcase received financial support from Sherbrooke Innovante through the Technology Showcase component of its support program for businesses in the industrial and technology sectors.

Skyrenu develops modular systems designed to capture CO2 from ambient air and other low-concentration streams. Its technology produces a concentrated CO2 stream that can be directed toward permanent storage or used as a feedstock in carbon utilization processes.
Secant Fuel is developing a thermochemical carbon conversion technology that uses heat and a catalyst to transform CO2 and water into syngas. According to the company's technology description, the process does not require electrolysis, and the resulting syngas can serve as an industrial feedstock or be converted into products including methanol, sustainable aviation fuel and diesel.
The latest delivery follows an earlier collaboration between the companies announced in February 2026. That work was focused on connecting Skyrenu's low-concentration CO2 capture platform with Secant Fuel's conversion technology as part of an integrated carbon value chain. The new delivery moves the collaboration into a physical demonstration involving CO2 captured directly from the atmosphere.
Skyrenu is already operating a 50-tonne-per-year DAC unit at Deep Sky Alpha in Innisfail, Alberta. The system was installed in March 2025 and became part of a complete capture and geological storage chain later that year. In August 2025, CO2 captured by the Skyrenu unit was permanently stored underground, providing an operating demonstration of the company's technology paired with geological sequestration.
The Secant Fuel showcase provides a different downstream pathway for captured carbon. Instead of sending the CO2 to permanent geological storage, the collaboration is examining its use as an input for carbon conversion. These pathways serve different purposes: geological storage is intended to keep captured atmospheric CO2 out of the atmosphere, while utilization can substitute captured carbon for carbon feedstocks used in fuels or chemical production.
Skyrenu is also developing its larger Bellevue Class DAC system. The company's current project information lists the system at a planned capacity of 125 tonnes of CO2 per year, with the unit in design and manufacturing and installation targeted for late 2026.
Skyrenu Technologies is a Quebec-based company founded in 2021 that develops modular systems for capturing low concentrations of CO2 from ambient air and dilute industrial streams. Its development program includes the 50-tonne-per-year system deployed at Deep Sky Alpha and the larger Bellevue Class system currently under development. The company is based in Sherbrooke, Quebec.
