Berlin-based Carbonsate just hit a major milestone. The company issued its first 799 carbon removal credits from a biomass storage project in Namibia, all certified under Puro.earth's Terrestrial Storage of Biomass methodology.
This comes right after Carbonsate became the 100th certified facility on the Puro.earth Registry.

The Namibia project tackles a real local problem: bush encroachment. About 30% of the country's land is affected, which puts pressure on farming, biodiversity, and groundwater.
Carbonsate's team selectively harvests the excess bush while prioritizing conservation and land restoration. The harvested biomass then goes into a custom-built, oxygen-free storage environment. Without oxygen, the material can't decompose, so the carbon stays locked away for over 100 years.
The company uses sensor technology to track CO2, methane, oxygen, temperature, and humidity in real time. This keeps tabs on long-term stability.
Each ton of stored CO2 gets independently verified by Puro.earth. Phase 1 capacity sits at around 800 tons, but Carbonsate says it could scale past 100,000 tons down the line.
The first batch of credits already sold to buyers focused on high-quality carbon removal. Now the team is working on Phase 2, which should bring bigger scale and faster delivery.
Carbonsate currently runs biomass projects in Namibia, Cameroon, Colombia, and Bulgaria. The company's goal? Remove more than 10 million tons of CO2 annually by 2033.
