At the Bath Landfill in Steuben County, New York, Waga Energy commissioned the first WAGABOX® unit in the United States. This facility upgrades landfill gas into renewable natural gas (RNG) injected into the Corning Natural Gas network, supplying the equivalent of 4,000 households and avoiding 13,500 tonnes of CO₂e emissions annually. The project exemplifies a successful public-private partnership for local energy production and climate action.

The WAGABOX® technology developed by Waga Energy combines membrane filtration and cryogenic distillation to purify landfill gas into pipeline-quality RNG (98% CH₄). It can handle variations in gas flow and nitrogen concentration, maximizing energy recovery from landfills. This first U.S. WAGABOX® unit demonstrates how advanced cryogenic upgrading enables reliable, grid-compliant RNG production at municipal landfills.
Kelly Fitzpatrick, Chairwoman of Steuben County:
This is a wonderful day for us and for future generations. Steuben County is proud to partner with Waga Energy and Corning Natural Gas to bring this project into reality.
Guénaël Prince, CEO of Waga Energy Inc. (USA):
This joint project with Steuben County and Corning Natural Gas represents a major milestone in the fight against climate change and for the energy transition.
As the first WAGABOX® in the United States, the Steuben County project paves the way for further deployment of cryogenic landfill gas upgrading in North America. It demonstrates the scalability of the technology and the economic viability of long-term RNG contracts with public landfill operators.
Waga Energy (EPA: WAGA) produces competitively priced Renewable Natural Gas (RNG, also known as biomethane) by upgrading landfill gas using a patented purification technology called WAGABOX®. The RNG produced is injected directly into the gas grids that supply individuals and businesses, providing a substitute for natural fossil gas. Waga Energy currently operates 32 RNG production units in France, Spain, Canada and the USA, representing an installed capacity of more than 5.2 million MMBtu (1.5 TWh) per year. To date, Waga Energy has 18 RNG production units under construction worldwide. Each project initiated by Waga Energy contributes to the fight against global warming and helps the energy transition.
